At the Gilford Castle shoot last weekend, Philip Fitzpatrick of Ballyvally archers hit fine form. He shot a magnificent 320 in the International FITA Round over the unmarked distances. The weekend before Philip was one of over 60 archers who turned out over the two days to start 2007 training for the big Field Archery competitions this year. Many of the clubs from across N.I. were represented.
Coming up are the NIAS Champs at Ballywalter, the Irish Open in Wicklow, the British team qualifying shoots at Kendal [Cumbria] and Dearne Valley [Yorkshire] and finally the British open in Wales.
The first big competition on the slopes will be on Sunday 28th January in Tollymore Forest Park. Philip's excellent score would put him in contention for a place in the British team for the European Championships in Croatia later this year. And especially in 2008 when the World Championship comes to Wales! Can he keep the scores coming in especially over the next four months during the qualifying shoots for the team?
